Open Access

Open access statement. PanAmerican Journal of Digital Humanities & AI is a fully open-access journal. All published articles are available immediately, free of charge and without restrictions to any user anywhere in the world from the moment of publication. No article processing charges (APC) are charged to authors and readers pay nothing to access content.

1. Why open access

Open access means that the copyright holder grants others, through an open license, the right to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link to or use the work for legitimate purposes without additional permission. This is consistent with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI, 2002). For PanAmerican DH&AI it is a matter of principle: research that can be read, cited, translated and built upon by any researcher in the Americas fulfils its purpose.

2. Diamond Open Access model

Institutions: access for their researchers

There are no article processing charges, submission fees, copy-editing fees or institutional subscriptions. The editorial project is funded by the publishing organization, Anglo Latin Culture 369 Corp., within PAC-DHCAI.

3. Editorial independence

Membership fees, sponsorships and any other support received by PAC-DHCAI or by Anglo Latin Culture 369 Corp. are independent of the journal. They do not influence peer review, editorial decisions or publication, and they give no priority and no early access to journal content. Publishing in the journal does not require, and is not affected by, membership. Any sponsor support directed to the journal will be disclosed publicly.

4. License: Creative Commons CC BY-NC 4.0

All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International license (CC BY-NC 4.0): https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/

The license allows you to: read, download and print any article; copy and distribute it in any medium or format; adapt, translate, summarize or build upon it; share it in repositories, academic networks and dissemination platforms; and cite it in other scholarly publications. Every use requires attribution to the original author(s) and to the journal, with the full citation and a link to the original article.

The license does not allow: commercial use of the work or its derivatives, including sale, direct monetization or incorporation into paid products or services; presenting the work as your own; or applying legal terms or technological measures that restrict others from exercising the rights granted by the license.

5. Copyright

Authors retain copyright in their work. By submitting a manuscript and accepting its publication, authors grant the journal a non-exclusive right to publish, distribute and archive the work in digital format under CC BY-NC 4.0. Authors keep the right to: deposit the work in institutional or subject repositories (preprint, postprint or published version); share it on personal academic profiles; reuse it in their own books, chapters, theses or other publications with attribution to the original publication; translate it into other languages; and present it at conferences and events. The journal does not require an exclusive transfer of copyright.

6. Archiving and digital preservation

Long-term preservation of published content is a core editorial responsibility. The journal uses: a permanent DOI for each article (once DOI registration is active); the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, which provides OAI-PMH metadata harvesting; and author self-archiving in institutional or subject repositories (for example Zenodo, figshare or university repositories). The journal plans to join a distributed archiving network (LOCKSS/CLOCKSS or the PKP Preservation Network).

7. Benefits for authors

Wider readership, because readers do not need access to paid databases; retention of copyright and free reuse; self-archiving without embargo; and no publication cost regardless of country or institutional affiliation.
